Tadej Pogacar has been planning a similar schedule for two years with very similar results: second place in the Tour de France behind Jonas Vingegaard and exhibitions in the classics and one-week races he participates in;
It is rumoured that in 2024 he could change his calendar somewhat and ride the Giro d'Italia. The 25-year-old Slovenian has an enviable record of five monuments (3 Lombardia, 1 Liège, 1 Flanders), 2 Tour de France and races such as Tirreno Adriatico, Paris-Nice, Flèche Wallonne or Amstel Gold Race. So, for a change, he could try to focus next season on trying to win the important races that he still lacks in his palmarès:
- Giro d'Italia
- Vuelta a Espana
- Itzulia Basque Country
- Volta a Catalunya
- Tour de Romandie
- Milano-SanRemo
- Paris-Roubaix
- World Championships
We will see what Tadej decides together with UAE Team Emirates. As of today it seems complicated that he will skip the Tour de France, but if he does it only this year he could end up expanding his palmares in such a way that from 2025 he could focus one hundred percent on trying to beat Vingegaard in the Grande Boucle. This 2024 also the Tour de France doesn't end in Paris and will have less attention because of the Olympic Games.... is it the ideal year for the alternative calendar?
