Team BikeExchange-Jayco withdraw from Volta a Comunitat Valenciana after positive Covid results

With the start of the season well underway, the effects of the ongoing pandemic remain very visible, as today one less team will take to the start in Alicante.

Team BikeExchange-Jayco issued a statement this morning announcing they would not take to the start at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. Following the race's testing guidelines, two positive cases were found within the bubble of the Australian team, it is unclear who that is.

“The safety of all our riders and staff, and that of everyone involved in the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana is of the utmost importance, and we believe the only correct decision to be taken in these circumstances is to withdraw from the race," stated Brent Copeland, General Manager of the Australian team.

“We would like to thank the race organisation for their understanding and support, and will continue to carry out our team policy to ensure the safest possible outcome.”

The Australian team already begun the race with a rider less due to injury, and these current cases of Covid-19 within the team make it impossible for it to stay in the competition. Lucas Hamilton was set to be the leader today as the peloton tackles the steep slopes of the Alto de la Antenas de Maigmó Tibi but he was riding in a distant 46th place in the overall classification.
