The 2024
Giro d'Italia belonged to
Tadej Pogacar, there's no question about that. Six stage wins, a near ten-minute lead in the general classification and almost the entire race in the Maglia Rosa after his victory on stage 2.
As such, it's somewhat unsurprising that the UAE Team Emirates raked in the majority of the
prize money on offer at the opening Grand Tour of the season. According to stats put together by
procyclingstats.com, in total, the Slovenian earned the monster sum of €414,751 through his performances, almost €300,000 more than the next biggest earner, Daniel Martinez, the only other rider at the Giro d'Italia to earn more than €100,000.
Looking down the list, three-time stage winner and Maglia Ciclamino
Jonathan Milan brought home €85,314 and
Geraint Thomas earned €79,418 with no other riders garnering more than €50,000 over the last three weeks of racing.
Three-time stage winner
Tim Merlier who secured the victory at the Giro d'Italia's finale in Rome took home €45,909 just a touch more than the winner of the White Jersey for Best Young Rider,
Antonio Tiberi who secured himself €45,570. The resurgent
Julian Alaphilippe who took a stage win and the award for most combative rider earned €39,145 and
Kaden Groves, despite not managing to secure a stage win was the next biggest earner at €31,376.
Completing the top-10 are other notable names from the last three weeks,
Thymen Arensman and top-6 finisher for the INEOS Grenadiers and
Ben O'Connor who equalled his best ever Grand Tour performance by finishing 4th in the general classification.
