Tadej Pogacar involved in early crash on stage 12 of Tour de France; Fabio Jakobsen abandons Tour

The Tour de France has had a rough start on stage 12 for a few riders. The strong pace of those trying to form a breakaway led to the difficulties of Fabio Jakobsen but also a crash that affected Tadej Pogacar.

With 179 kilometers to the finale of the stage there was a crash involving several riders in the peloton, one that happened close to the front and ended up blocking the road for many. Jonas Rickaert was the worst affected of those, but it seems like no-one abandoned as a result. It is not clear if Tadej Pogacar hit the deck but the yellow jersey had to stop for quite a few seconds as his chain had dropped. He regained his spot in the peloton quickly however.

Fabio Jakobsen in the meantime had been dropped from the peloton in a small hilltop and this time around was not supported by anyone in the team. As the pace did not slow down, the Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL rider quickly lost several minutes on the peloton and as the team vehicles left his side the withdraw was clear.

Only moments after the crash, but behind it, the Dutch sprinted got off the bike and hopped on a team vehicle, confirming his departure from the race for a second consecutive year.
