Short cranks have been the topic among technical geek circles ever since the start of 2025 when the
reports of Jonas Vingegaard sporting ultra-short 150mm cranks, following the example of Tadej Pogacar, have spread. Since then, a season has passed during which we have seen this "innovation" in action at all kinds of races, including the Tour de France and World Championships. And as Visma | Lease a Bike's star riders were clearly satisfied with the adjustment (Wout Van Aert is also equipped with a personal setup), SRAM is ready to offer the
mythical 150 and 155mm cranks to their regular customers.
"The creation of 150 and 155 cranks became a reality because of the requests from professional riders, and we wanted to provide riders with choice," SRAM road product manager Jason Fowler told
Cyclingnews about the process that brought shortened cranks to life.
"Riders like
Jonas Vingegaard and others started requesting in 2024, and then started riding and racing prototypes in 2025. Some riders are looking at these lengths for time trial only, while others are looking at these lengths for both road and time trial."
