Four time F1 champion Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand
Prix yesterday, but he wasn’t the only champion at the track. Double Olympic
champion
Remco Evenepoel had an incredible campaign in 2024, like Verstappen, and
was trackside in Qatar this weekend to watch the Formula 1.
The 24 year old Belgian were invited by the Alpine F1 team
to watch the Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit. Evenepoel took
his two gold medals to the team’s garage, which is the first gold that’s been
in there since 2021, the last time Alpine won a race.
Evenepoel was also present for the Europa League game
between Anderlecht and FC Porto on Thursday, so he’s clearly making the most of
his break from two wheels, "Now I can do something that is impossible
during the season.
"It is still a quiet period. I am already training a
bit, but I am still resting a lot."
"And I do things I can't do otherwise, like coming to
Anderlecht. The kick-off was early, it's close by and Porto is a European top
club. That's a bonus," he said to Play6.
Evenepoel will soon return to full time training, as he
looks to close the gap to Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard next season. The Soudal
– Quick-Step rider has yet to confirm his schedule for next year, leaving fans
to wonder
whether he will attempt a Giro-Tour double.
