Many riders have quoted illnesses in the last few weeks in the peloton, specially as both Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico took place under cold weather last week. Milano-Sanremo has has many riders miss their presence due to recent sickness and Sonny Colbrelli is another absence.
The European champion has had a late but strong start to the season with a runner-up spot at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, however in the following week at the start of Paris-Nice he was already clearly debilitated in the opening stage to Mantes-la-Ville where Jumbo - Visma took an historical one-two-three win. He didn't take to the start the following day with illness, which has hampered his training and sees him making a meaningful change to his calendar.
The Bahrain - Victorious line-up is to be revealed very soon however the indications are that Matej Mohoric and Fred Wright will be leading the team's ambitions towards the finale. As for Colbrelli he's scheduled to return to competition on monday at the Volta a Catalunya where he should be sharpening his form for the two monuments.
