At the third stage of Vuelta a Andalucía, Astana Qazaqstan rider
Samuele Battistella cemented his place among the top riders with a bronze medal, finishing 15 seconds behind winner
Tim Wellens and claiming his second podium of the season.
“Today was almost flat stage and the plan of the team was to go to the breakaway and I managed to join it. I spent all the race to try to do my best at the final climb,” he said after the race.
He further added, “I attacked at 3 km to go to anticipate the final kilometers, but the chasers catch me at the bottom of the last climb, so I went full gas till the finish line.”
It is worth noting that his condition was less than optimal, as he was still in the process of recuperation from his previous week's illness. “I think it is good result, even because I was sick last week, I had a flu and I didn’t know my condition until the end. So, I’m really happy about today’s performance and happy to bring another podium to the team,” concluded Battistella. He currently holds 97th position in GC. 32 minutes overall leader Tadej Pogacar.
