The pictures of Romain Bardet's crash weren't a nice sight. The fall forced the Frenchman to abandon during the third stage of Volta ao Algarve and, with suspicion of more severe injuries, he was immediately sent for check-up in the hospital.
Luckily, the examinations showed no fractures and so the retiring leader of Team Picnic PostNL can already shift his focus to next races. He still had an appointment to undergo another round of scans today in France, but if results turn out positive we can expect him back in competition relatively soon. Bardet's next schedule includes two French one-day races; Faun Ardeche Classic and Faun Drome Classic next weekend.
Unfortunately @romainbardet was involved in a crash 🙁

He was able to get back up but after carrying out a check on him at the side of the road and to be safe in regards to his future health, he has abandoned #VoltaAoAlgarve🇵🇹
Get well soon, Romain! 🧡 pic.twitter.com/xeYKlu6A4e
