Jarno Widar has taken a major win at this Tuesday's Tre Valli Varesine. The Italian classic saw Lotto - Intermarché take his first pro win ahead of none other than Tom Pidcock and Matteo Jorgenson.

With 196 kilometers in length and a ton of history, the Italian race would crown a new winner after Tadej Pogacar conquered it 12 months ago. Ahead of Il Lombardia, the climbers and classics specialists would have the opportunity to sharpen their legs and fight for a major win.

Tommaso Nencini, Kyrylo Tsarenko, Fabian Weiss, Noah Ramsey and Matteo Turconi formed the day's breakaway. The group began losing riders within the final circuit, featuring two small climbs linked up together. The final survivors were caught with 44 kilometers to go.

At the same time, Quinn Simmons launched an attack, opening up the race's key phase and accelerating the pace significantly. Mikkel Honoré then made a move off the front and obtained a gap over the peloton. He was caught with 25 kilometers to go by Simmons. The American and Davide Piganzoli bridged across, and although the move looked promising, the gaps were small and behind several riders worked to close the gap including World Champion Brandon McNulty.

Tom Pidcock then attacked with 14 kilometers to go, joined by Matteo Jorgenson and Jarno Widar. Jorgenson initially refused to work, leading to a lot of protest from Pidcock. But after the American attacked and did not manage to get away, he began collaborating. The trio began creating a larger gap over the chasing group, in which there wasn't much of an organized chase.

The trio appeared to get to a standstill in the final kilometer. Although there was a gap, it caused tension. Tom Pidcock took the head of the group, and in the final sprint Jarno Widar intelligently sprinted with momentum from behind and then managed to hold his advantage to the line, taking a major win. Pidcock and Jorgenson completed the podium, with the peloton only a few seconds behind.
