Christian Bagatin (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) delivered the ride of his career to win Stage 6 of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye, surviving from the early breakaway to take a commanding victory on the brutal summit finish at Feslikan.
The Italian held on after attacking on the lower slopes of the 21.4km climb, resisting all pressure from behind to cross the line solo after a long day out front. Behind him, the general classification battle exploded in the final kilometres.
Sebastian Berwick (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) finished second, while
Jordan Jegat (TotalEnergies) completed the podium in third.
The stage had been shaped by a large early move, with 14 riders going clear and building an advantage of more than six minutes heading towards the decisive climb.
Bagatin proved the strongest of that group, launching his move as the gradient bit on Feslikan and quickly distancing the rest of the breakaway. One by one, his former companions were dropped or swept up by the peloton as the climb took its toll.
Geoffrey Bouchard briefly emerged as the closest challenger after bridging across from behind, but he too was distanced as Bagatin maintained a relentless tempo all the way to the summit.
GC contenders forced into late battle
Behind the stage winner, the fight for overall position came to life inside the final three kilometres. Sebastian Berwick attacked from the reduced peloton, with Jordan Jegat following, as the favourites finally began to show their cards on the steepest gradients of the climb.
The queen stage delivered significant time gaps among the contenders, with several riders dropped before the final kilometres as the pace intensified on the climb.
Bagatin’s victory from the breakaway stands as the standout performance of the race so far, while behind him the general classification has been firmly reshaped ahead of the remaining stages.
