Victory number 7 of the year for
UAE Team Emirates - XRG has been achieved this morning at the
Tour of Oman, as
Juan Sebastián Molano sprinted to victory at the end of the opening stage of the race.
The stage began with a difficult climb, used by Alex Díaz, José Luis Faura and Patryk Goszczurny to form the day's breakaway. It was a day without a big story, as the wind was not present and the peloton comfortably controlled the front trio, reeling them in eventually with 22 kilometers to go.
The leadout battle towards the Bimmah Sink Hole began with a few kilometers to go, without a single technical feature as an obstacle to the riders. The sprint was then chaotic, because all teams were fresh towards the end, and there were plenty leadouts in the mix, not allowing any specific rider to have a perfect run-in to the finish.
All the sprinters had to go head to head against each other, and in this battle it was
Juan Sebastián Molano who sprinted to victory,
beating Fernando Gaviria who looked to have the speed but not the space against the barriers, and Gerben Thijssen.
