Jonathan Milan wins stage 21 of the 2026 Giro d'Italia in Rome
Stage 2 of the Tour de Pologne was a day for the sprinters and one with a very tense finale. But in this scenario, Lidl-Trek's Jonathan Milan was able to thrive, taking his second win of the race ahead of Paul Magnier.
A pan-flat day with plenty intermediate sprints and only 150 kilometers on the menu. There was everything for the peloton to have a calm day; a second in which the sprinters would have their opportunity.
Anton Schiffer, Jonas Rutsch, Patryk Stosz and Radoslaw Fratczak formed the day's brekaway. Dries de Bondt briefly joined them as well; before in they attacked each other for bonus seconds. The catch was made with 16 kilometers to go.
Decathlon took the head of the peloton with speed inside the final 4 kilometers but the speed increased dramatically afterwards, with a fresh peloton seeing several leadouts head towards the front.
The incredibly fast and dangerous finale created a very tense situation, in which a few riders struggled to find their position. The leadouts in fact struggled to work, and a 180-degree corner over tram tracks with only 400 meters to go stretched the peloton out further.
Astana had two men up front and one of them got a gap over the corner. Jonathan Milan didn't look to close the gap but instead risked it; following Ivan García Cortina's early sprint and then himself launching a massive sprint towards the line which had him achieve his second win in as many days. Paul Magnier was second, followed by Matteo Malucelli.
