Giulio Pellizzari won stage 3 of the 2026 Deutschland Tour after escaping alongside Isaac del Toro, while the UAE Team Emirates – XRG rider took the overall lead from Louis Barre. The pair stayed clear after attacking on the Rotsteig climb, with Pellizzari taking the victory in Bad Durkheim as Del Toro crossed the line second without fully contesting the sprint.
Marc Hirschi finished third, 33 seconds behind, while Barre arrived with the chasing group at 48 seconds. Del Toro overturned his six-second deficit to the Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider and moved 51 seconds clear overall after collecting bonus seconds during the stage and at the finish.
Pellizzari completed the 170.6km route from Herxheim in 4:03:44, giving Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe a second consecutive stage victory after Alessio Magagnotti’s success the previous day.

Del Toro attacks Barre on Rotsteig

The stage featured 3,117 metres of climbing, with early ascents of Lolosruhe and Kalmit reducing the peloton before the decisive action developed on Rotsteig.
Miguel Heidemann collected maximum mountains points on Lolosruhe and the first passage of Kalmit, moving ahead of teammate Ole Theiler in the mountains classification. The original breakaway was eventually caught before Nelson Oliveira attacked alone and briefly threatened Barre’s overall lead. Oliveira held more than a minute over the peloton before UAE Team Emirates – XRG increased the pace approaching the 1.7km Rotsteig climb.
Nils Politt positioned positioned Del Toro before Antonio Morgado accelerated, allowing the Mexican to attack with approximately 35km remaining. Barre initially attempted to follow but could not close the gap and was caught by the chasing group.
Pellizzari counterattacked from behind, passed Barre and bridged across to Del Toro. The two climbers then joined Oliveira at the front, forming the move that ultimately decided both the stage and the general classification.

Pellizzari takes the stage as Del Toro moves 51 seconds clear

Team Visma | Lease a Bike attempted to limit the damage through Wilco Kelderman and Bart Lemmen, but the advantage of the leading group continued to grow. Oliveira lost contact on Annaberg with approximately 18km remaining, leaving Pellizzari and Del Toro alone at the front. Barre later attacked from the chasing group and contributed to the pursuit himself, but the leaders maintained their advantage.
Hirschi accelerated clear of the chasers inside the final eight kilometres, while Del Toro collected three bonus seconds at the final Annaberg sprint ahead of Pellizzari, who took two. Hirschi claimed the remaining second as he continued his pursuit.
Pellizzari accelerated inside the final kilometre, with Del Toro making no attempt to challenge him as the Italian secured victory. Hirschi arrived 33 seconds later to complete the podium.
Barre’s group finished 48 seconds behind, and Del Toro’s six-second bonus for second place completed a decisive turnaround in the overall standings. The former leader now trails Del Toro by 51 seconds ahead of the final stage.
