Alessio Magagnotti upset sprint favourite Paul Magnier to win stage 2 of the 2026 Deutschland Tour in Offenbach an der Queich. The 19-year-old Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe rider outpaced the Soudal – Quick-Step sprinter after 196.9km of racing from Schwabisch Hall, with Iuri Leitao completing the podium.
Magagnotti finished in 4:40:13, while Max Walscheid took fourth ahead of Phil Bauhaus, Tobias Muller and John Degenkolb.
Louis Barre retained the overall lead, but Isaac del Toro reduced his advantage after winning the intermediate bonus sprint in Bellheim. The UAE Team Emirates – XRG rider collected three seconds, cutting the gap between the leading pair from nine seconds to six.

Del Toro gains ground after early break is caught

Ole Theiler, Ben Felix Jochum and Alvaro Sagrado formed the principal breakaway, with Theiler returning to the front after also spending much of stage 1 in the escape.
Sagrado led the trio over the Juxkopf climb, while Theiler collected the remaining mountain point to move ahead of teammate Miguel Heidemann in the mountains classification.
Their advantage approached two minutes before Soudal – Quick-Step and UAE Team Emirates – XRG organised the pursuit. The three attackers were caught with 32km remaining, allowing Del Toro to target the bonus seconds available in Bellheim.
The Mexican took the maximum three seconds ahead of teammate Nils Politt, who collected two, while Mathias Vacek claimed the remaining second. Barre had started the day with a nine-second cushion following his late solo victory on stage 1, but Del Toro’s move tightened the general classification battle ahead of the remaining stages.

Magagnotti beats Magnier in Offenbach

Magnier arrived in the finale as the outstanding sprint favourite after winning the ADAC Cyclassics earlier in the week. Soudal – Quick-Step had controlled much of the stage on his behalf, presenting the Frenchman with a chance to respond after Barre distanced him during the closing kilometres of stage 1.
Unibet Rose Rockets moved riders towards the front after the first passage of the finish line, while Lidl – Trek became increasingly prominent as the peloton approached Offenbach.
Vacek helped drive the pace before Giulio Ciccone took a turn at the front inside the final two kilometres. Magnier positioned himself behind teammate Laurenz Rex as the sprint trains accelerated towards the finish.
Walscheid launched the sprint for Lidl – Trek, but Magagnotti proved quickest, beating Magnier to the line to claim victory for Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe. Caja Rural – Seguros RGA rider Leitao finished third, with Walscheid, Bauhaus, Muller and Degenkolb completing the first seven places. Barre remained ahead of Del Toro in the overall classification after the Mexican’s three-second gain in Bellheim.
