Although being often active in the race, Trek - Segafredo have not yet managed to succeed at the Tour de France. Quinn Simmons is part of the team's stage-hunting lineup, and he has talked about how the team is still looking for chances.
“It’s nice this is the one time of the year that our sport is relevant over in the U.S. We’re just here to hunt for stages, and with the caliber of Mads [Pedersen] and Jasper [Stuyven] they have some really good opportunities in the flatter days. Then when we have some more medium days in the mountains I’ll probably go for another opportunity," Simmons told Velonews.
On stages 13, 14 and 15 there will be rolling stages which feature the likes of rouleurs such as Simmons. With Mads Pedersen not having succeeded in the bunch sprints until now, Trek - Segafredo are likely to go on the attack into breakaways in order to try and take a win in a different way.
“I just like racing. If I see an opportunity I try to take it, no matter the situation. Just to be here is a nice step, but every time you do a grand tour you learn a bit more and more. I’m just trying to grow as a rider and hopefully get a few more chances in the breakaway to play for the win," the American concluded.
