Primoz Roglic has an history in Spanish time-trials, and today he has written another chapter as he dominated the explosive opening prologue of the
Itzulia Basque Country. The 7.5-kilometer course was very complicated with several short but steep ramps, and Roglic has used it to his advantage,
"I'm super happy with this victory. It was not an easy time trial, held on a technical course with many corners. I had good legs today and could fight until the end. I enjoyed the crowd and the atmosphere," Roglic said in a post-race interview. He and Remco Evenepoel were on a superior level to the competition. Whilst he passed the intermediate sprint slightly behind the Belgian, he's gained five seconds over the technical second half of the course, which also included a steep cobbled climb.
"This was a ten-minute effort, so there are no big differences yet. Of course it is always better to be ahead than behind, but this doesn't mean much. It is just the beginning," he concluded.
Although he accurately points out that the differences made today are not crucial, they are quite a motivating factor and have put the Slovenian in the lead. He will now be on the defensive, but
Jumbo-Visma have a very strong collective capable of backing him up throughout the race.
