Primoz Roglic wins opening Itzulia Basque Country prologue

Jumbo-Visma have had a disappointing Tour des Flandres, however at the Itzulia Basque Country they're back to their winning ways as Primoz Roglic took the win in the opening prologue and is the first leader of the race.

Although short, the prologue was quite explosive and had room for small gaps to open up between the favourites. With fast descents, explosive uphill pitches, the GC riders found themselves fighting for the victory. Lucas Hamilton, Ben Tulett and Rémi Cavagna were between the early leaders of the time, and the French rider's time seemed to be one very hard to beat and to contest the win.

That was the case until the final riders got on the road, Remco Evenepoel decimated his time by 11 seconds. However, in his traditional style, Primoz Roglic left no chance to his rivals as he powered through the second half of the prologue to overturn and still take 5 seconds on Evenepoel's time.

With significant time taken on his rivals, Roglic goes into the second stage on the race lead already, having beating Evenepoel and Cavagna who finished second and third.
