Lotto-Intermarché have confirmed the arrival of Mauri Vansevenant as the experienced Belgian climber joins from Soudal Quick-Step on a two-year deal. Following in the footsteps of his father, the West Flanders native brings a wealth of experience to the team.
His father, Wim, rode for the team from 2003 to 2008, with both the feeling of joining the team and his sporting ambitions fuelling a change of scenery for the 27-year-old.
“Lotto-Intermarché is a team with so much history. Over the years, so many talented riders and team leaders have come through its ranks. For me, that's the best proof of the quality of the work being done here”, Vansevenant said in the announcement.
“And that's a team I want to be part of. I see my future here. I believe just as strongly in the team's character as I do in the project itself. It's not about being part of a huge organisation, but about that family atmosphere."

Vansevenant determined to take next step

Vansevenant is determined to make an impact with his new team and believes that a grand tour stage win is within his capabilities, while also harbouring grand ambitions for the classics.
He added: "I could already see during the season that there's a really good atmosphere within the team, and I know that's when I can get the very best out of myself.
“Having something new to prove is always a good thing in a career. I've been around for quite a while now. I still believe that winning a stage in a Grand Tour is within my capabilities. And of course, the Ardennes Classics remain a major priority for me."

Lotto excited for new arrival

For Lotto, not only is the Beglian's arrival a good fit, but they believe that they can help move him to the next level.
Lotto-Intermarché CEO Jean-François Bourlart is delighted with the arrival: “With his attacking style of racing, Mauri is a perfect fit for our team. He will be an important addition to our roster, particularly in the Ardennes Classics.
"He has already proven his qualities in those races over the past few years. We are convinced that he can take further steps and achieve strong results within our team. At the same time, he brings valuable experience to our young group of climbers."
Bourlart added: "We don't just develop talented riders; we also surround them with experienced riders who can help them take the next step. Mauri will play an important role in that process.”
