The
UAE Team Emirates sprinter has had a rough period over the last few months but has finally got things under way and grabbed his first win with the team, the 19th of the UAE team this year.
Pascal Ackermann won the
Bredene Koksijde Classic in the bunch sprint.
The breakaway of the day consisted of Patrick Gamper (BORA - hansgrohe), Adrien Petit (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux), Karl Patrick Lauk (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB), Kasper Saver (Minerva Cycling) and Thibau Verhofstadt (Tarteletto - Isorex). Over the hilly section of the race several attacks came, as the peloton frequently saw splits and the likes of Dries de Bondt and Victor Campenaerts joined the action on the offensive side.
Several attacks came throughout the afternoon but the flat nature of the second half of the race combined with a frequent headwind led to it being easily controlled. A bunch sprint was to take place in the end, although with no actual leadout in the end, Ackermann launched his move within the final few hundred meters in a sprint that resembled those at his peak form, and took an important win.
Hugo Hofstetter and
Tim Merlier wrapped up the podium.
