“Our main objective is to win the Tour de France again” - Niermann & Plugge bullish about Visma's 2025 targets

The 2025 World Tour season is almost here and as always, many eyes will be on the yellow-and-black of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. In the coming year, one main goal stands out for Visma: regaining the Maillot Jaune at the Tour de France. 

After back to back Tour de France victories over the last two years from team leader Jonas Vingegaard, Team Visma | Lease a Bike were left disappointed in the summer of 2024, as UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar overcame Vingegaard and took the Maillot Jaune for the third time in his illustrious career. “Our main objective is to win the Tour de France again,” says Grischa Niermann in an official team press release from Visma. “Additionally, we hope to achieve our dream of winning the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.”

“For all these objectives, we have a strong mix of experienced riders and young talents, GC contenders and one-day specialists, time trialists, climbers, and sprinters," adds Team Visma | Lease a Bike CEO Richard Plugge. "After a challenging and eventful 2024, we’re determined to aim for the very highest together this year.”

One thing to note from Plugge's comments is the emphasis on young talents at Visma. “We’ve crafted strong plans for the upcoming season. It’s important for young riders to have a race schedule tailored to their development, giving them opportunities to improve their skills and insights at the highest level, surrounded by experienced leaders like Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert,” Niermann explains. "We've adjusted our calendar compared to previous years. We’ll participate in more smaller races to give our young riders the chance to compete for victories. We believe this will help accelerate their development.”

With Vingegaard already confirmed to be skipping the Giro d'Italia and putting full focus on preparing for the Tour de France, the Dane is likely to be at his very best in the battle for the Maillot Jaune later this summer. Exciting news for cycling fans.
