Jumbo-Visma have an ever-growing team in terms of quality, and it'd development ranks have seen Olav Kooij quickly grow into one of the peloton's top sprinters. Today at the Tour de Hongrie, he took his fourth win of the season.
After the stage, in which he beat Elia Viviani to the line, he said: "It was a pretty quiet day, so you know it will be very hectic at the end. As a team, we took good positions in the final and the guys dropped me off perfectly. That allowed me to ride a good sprint, with victory as a reward."
"I had to go full speed because they came up fast behind me. With many good sprinters at the start, this victory is obviously very nice," he added. The chaotic finale saw the likes of Dylan Groenewegen and Fabio Jakobsen out of the picture, and Kooij found himself in a favourable position towards the final meters, launching his sprint over the final corner.
He will set off for the second stage in the race lead, and will have three more opportunities to show off his sprinting capacity. Jumbo-Visma have their Tour de France block currently training at altitude, and with another block currently at the Giro d'Italia, Kooij is making good use of his freedom.
