Niccolo Bonifazio delighted to return to winning ways at the Giro di Sicilia: "My last victory dates back to 300 days ago"

Taking the victory on stage 2 of the 2023 Giro di Sicilia, Niccolo Bonifazio crossed the line with his arms aloft for the first time in nearly a year. After a return to winning ways, the Intermarche-Circus-Wanty rider is confident more wins will follow.

"I worked hard last winter, but so far I couldn't taste a win," he said immediately following the race in a post-stage interview. “Before the start of the stage, however, I was confident that I could win. When I was able to start the sprint in a good position, I knew that starting early was a good option."

Whilst the big-name sprinters that were expected to battle it out for the victory such as Mark Cavendish and Elia Viviani were nowhere to be seen in the final, Bonifazio had positioned himself perfectly. "At the moment I am very happy, because my last victory dates back to 300 days ago, just before the Tour de France," he explains. "Now I'm curious what will happen, I think this is a very important win for me."
