Massive crash in the final straight of the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné that caused the neutralization of the stage and involved
Remco Evenepoel,
Primoz Roglic and
Juan Ayuso among many other riders.
The worst part, once again for Visma - Lease a Bike, which saw
Steven Kruijswijk having to be taken away by ambulance after a very hard blow.
Dylan Van Baarle also suffered a heavy blow and was forced to abandon the race.
The peloton was going through a very fast zone and the ground was completely wet. The leaders' teams (UAE, Visma, Soudal, BORA) were trying to gain position 28 km from the finish line when the massive crash occurred at the front of the peloton. More than 60 riders are estimated to have become involved in the incident.
The commissaires automatically decided to neutralize the race, stopping the front group and also the two escapees who remained in the lead with less than half a minute advantage (Mathis Le Berre and Tobias Bayer).
We could see Roglic talking to his teammates, Evenepoel moving the arm he had the problem with after his fall in the Itzulia and Juan Ayuso complaining. We haven't seen any worrying images among the large number of riders who have gone down.
