Massive crash in the final straight of the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné that caused the neutralization of the stage and involved Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic and Juan Ayuso among many other riders.
The worst part, once again for Visma - Lease a Bike, which saw Steven Kruijswijk having to be taken away by ambulance after a very hard blow. Dylan Van Baarle also suffered a heavy blow and was forced to abandon the race.
The peloton was going through a very fast zone and the ground was completely wet. The leaders' teams (UAE, Visma, Soudal, BORA) were trying to gain position 28 km from the finish line when the massive crash occurred at the front of the peloton. More than 60 riders are estimated to have become involved in the incident.
The commissaires automatically decided to neutralize the race, stopping the front group and also the two escapees who remained in the lead with less than half a minute advantage (Mathis Le Berre and Tobias Bayer).
We could see Roglic talking to his teammates, Evenepoel moving the arm he had the problem with after his fall in the Itzulia and Juan Ayuso complaining. We haven't seen any worrying images among the large number of riders who have gone down.

straight road, just happened to be wet, and high speed . lack of traction. perhaps 35c minimum tire width help with this situation. I ride all the time and 25/28c tires on slick roads are dangerous

I didn't even think to look at the results today due to it being a stage that shouldn't have changed GC. That's what I get... I'll watch it for sure tonight.

Visma sure can’t seem to catch a break aye. Two of their tdf domestiques injured and in the hospital. Hopefully they give extra couple of new undetectable juices to Jonas to pull smth off.

There have certainly been the a lot of crazy crashes and mass carnage in the professional peloton so far this season, and it hasn't been a pretty sight. I hope that nobody was injured too seriously this time, and best wishes for a speedy recovery for all who went down and could not continue.
