Team DSM-Firmenich lose yet another rider from their roster of youngsters. After months of speculation, under-23 time-trial World champion
Lorenzo Milesi will join
Movistar Team from next season onwards.
Multiple sources within the cycling world have confirmed the news. Although it is not public, as teams take on training camps it is very possible that the Italian is currently training with Movistar, and his absence was noticed from the Team DSM-Firmenich camp - although this is speculative.
The transfer does not come as a big surprise. Milesi had been heavily hinted to be joining INEOS Grenadiers over the past few months who seek to become the leading team when it comes to time-trials. They have significantly boosted their lineup however and the deal was never agreed on. Despite having a contract until 2025, this will end - as many in the past have - prematurely.
Milesi is one of the brightest time-trialists emerging in the peloton but is also a quality rider outside of it, having impressed in the road race in Glasgow this season where he finished fifth in the under-23 event. He also led the Vuelta a Espana after the Dutch team surprised on the opening day.
