Mikel Landa's return is very close! The Soudal - Quick-Step rider's recovery from his accident at Giro d'Italia has been miraculous, and the veteran Basque rider will be back much sooner than what most prognosis predicted. And Vuelta a Espana start is back on the table!
In May, Landa said goodbye to his GC Giro dream as he abandoned the Corsa Rosa on the first stage. Mikel suffered a heavy crash during the Grande Partenza day that resulted in a fractured vertebra.
Despite early medical assessments that he would miss the remainder of the season, the Diputación de Burgos has confirmed, as race organizer, that Mikel Landa will be part of a Quick-Step lineup for the Vuelta a Burgos 2025.
The race will be held from August 5 to 9, that is, in less than 2 weeks. Although there is no info as to whether Landa intends to participate in the following Vuelta a Espana, this news sends the likelihood charts of his start through the roof.

In addition to Landa, Soudal - Quick-Step's lineup for Vuelta a Burgos should normally include also other climbers Louis Vervaeke, Pieter Serry, William Junior Lecerf, Gianmarco Garofoli and James Knox. For possible sprints, the Belgian team will bet on Luke Lamperti.
For Soudal - Quick-Step, it's very important for Mikel Landa to return to competition. The team recently suffered the withdrawal of Remco Evenepoel on stage 14 of the Tour de France. The Belgian was 3rd overall, but simply could not endure the 3 days in a row in the Pyrenees.
An injection of morale was just what Quick-Step needed to be able to look ahead. The goal at the Vuelta a Burgos for Landa will be to regain racing sensations. Always looking ahead to the Vuelta a España, the possibilities open up for the Belgian team.
