Astana Qazaqstan Team welcomed Miguel Ángel López back in 2022 following his dramatic fallout with Movistar, but despite having a contract until 2023, it is being reported that the Colombian is looking to find a new team after relations with the team have deteriorated.
According to Zikoland, López and Astana's relations have taken a turn for the worst following the suspicions that he had been distributing medicine from Colombia to Spain that were not legally allowed in the European country. Although he was absolved from his charges soon after, his involvement in the case has left a bad mark in a team that already carries a not-so-bright reputation.
López turned pro in 2015 with the Kazakh team and has raced throughout most of his career in the structure of Alexander Vinokourov, evolving into one of the world's best climbers and stage-racers. In 2021 he moved out of the team to join Movistar, but has returned the season after. The very same situation is found in Luis León Sanchéz who has signed a contract to race for Astana for it's third time.
López has a contract until 2023 but is said to be on the lookout for a new team. It is unknown if a transfer is imminent or only a small possibility, but in any case the signs are not the brightest.
