Megan Jastrab: “I was given the opportunity to go but the finish was extremely fast"

The first stage of the Tour of Scandinavia concluded with Marianne Vos’ victory. Team DSM rider Megan Jastrab was one of the few riders to challenge Vos in the final kilometer for gold. She finished in the second position.

“I can’t believe what happened today,” said Jastrab with excitement. She continues, “I was given the opportunity to go for it if it came down to a sprint today. The team was looking for opportunities to get in breakaways, but in the end, it was a sprint. All of the girls and team fully backed me and gave me the confidence that I was lacking to go for it. The finish was extremely fast, but the girls kept me safe and well positioned on the circuits to set me up in the best position. I’m looking forward to the coming stages with the team.”

Although she did not win the stage, the young rider was able to face a skilled rider like Marianne Vos. She sits in the second position in GC behind overall leader Vos.
