With 12km to go and the foot of the final climb almost in sight, the break was swallowed up by the peloton. As the road then started heading upwards, it wasn't long before things at the front really started to thin out. The first big attack then came from 2nd on GC Marlen Reusser at 4.3km to go, with
Yara Kastelijn right onto the back wheel of the Movistar Team leader.
By the time Reusser and Kastelijn had reached the final 2km, the pair had built up an advantage of nearly 40 seconds on the leading chase group that included Elisa Longo Borghini and Amanda Spratt. With 1.4km to go, Reusser then went solo at the head of the race all the way to the stage win.
