Mark Cavendish abandons Milano - Torino with reported sickness

The rocky start to 2024 continues for Mark Cavendish as the legendary British sprinter has abandoned mid-race at Milano - Torino.

Pre-race, Cavendish eluded to the fact that he wasn't feeling particularly great and it is believed that this illness has resulted in his abandonment. It's now expected Astana Qazaqstan Team will be forced to change their tactics somewhat and instead ride in the service of Cavendish's leadout man, Cees Bol.

For Cavendish, attention remains firmly on his final Tour de France later this summer but it's now three straight races started but not finished for the 38-year-old.
