Marius Mayrhofer misses out on his first win of the season - "Sometimes you have to ride like that to have a chance of winning"

Tudor Pro Cycling Team rider Marius Mayrhofer narrowly missed out on his first win of the 2024 season. He narrowly lost out to Spanish Movistar Team rider Pelayo Sánchez Mayo at the finish of the Trofeo Pollenca - Port d'Andratx and finished second ahead of Aleksandr Vlasov from BORA - hansgrohe.

"That was a tough race, I was in the second group over the last climb, then I flew down the descent, in the end I was alone and managed to catch up. I really wanted to win and then closed the gap to Lennart [van Eetvelt]. When Soler attacked, it was up to me again to close the gap and then I didn't have the legs for the last 100 meters. It's frustrating," Mayrhofer told Eurosport after the race.

"I was going for the win, if I hadn't closed the gap then Soler would have won the race. Sometimes you have to ride like that to have a chance of winning. We wanted to win and we still have a chance tomorrow. I'm looking forward to the race (Trofeo Palma, ed.)."

Another podium finish for Marius Mayrhofer and the TudorPro Cycling Team. Will it perhaps be enough for the first victory tomorrow? We'll see...
