Mads Pedersen has won the 2025
Tour of Denmark! The Danish
Lidl-Trek leader sealed a dominant week with his third stage win in five days on the final stage, winning a reduced sprint ahead of
Axel Zingle.
Six riders broke free from the peloton and forced their way into the breakaway early on. Best known of them was Jakob Fuglsang, representing the Danish national team and riding what is likely to be the final professional race day of his career on home soil. With Daniel Weis Nielsen best placed GC wise at more than 10 minutes down though, there was no threat for Mads Pedersen's leadership in the break. Nevertheless, the peloton were keeping a firm control of the break, never allowing anything bigger than two minutes.
Mads Andersen proved last man standing of the break, but with 17km to go, he too had been swallowed up by the bunch. With Lidl-Trek keeping a firm grip of the front of the peloton, huge gaps were being caused behind. Then with 12km to go, Mads Pedersen himself came to the front, with only a select group able to keep contact.
As they entered the final lap of the finishing circuit, 7 riders were at the front of the race with Pedersen, Jakob Soderqvist and Soren Kragh Andersen of Lidl-Trek joined by Lukas Kubis, Axel Zingle, Niklas Larsen and Matyas Kopecky. Still 25 seconds clear at 3km to go, the stage win looked certain to be heading to that lead group, now down to just 5 with Larsen and Kubis dropped.
The first attack for the stage win came from Pedersen, but Zingle was smart to it and matched the Danish GC leader, nullifying the move. With a sprint then deciding the day, Pedersen took victory anyway, sealing his third win of the week.
