Good morning and welcome to the liveblog of the 109th edition of the Giro d’Italia. Today marks stage 16, as the riders return to the road after a rest day. It is the stage that opens the final week of racing, with everything still to play for. The battles for the GC, KOM, as well as the Youth and Points classifications, remain wide open. - Nobody in France cares what it sounds like in English, neither in Portugal for that matter. Usually the name gets (or should get) pronounced the way its owner says it, isn’t that the simplest way to pay respects to the person? I can understand ignorance but all those interviewers and insiders and industry pros who have met him and other riders, should make a minimum effort to stick to the person’s name and not some ridiculous foreign version of it. Fine if you CANT pronounce it decently but at least make an effort instead of nationalising every foreign name. And let’s stay grown up, if we’re all going to behave like preteens upon hearing names like that, how on earth would you have had a serious conversation in the situation room when a guy like Dick Cheney was around? - The organisers are hoping that stage 20 of this race will be like stage 20 of the previous year. All out attacks on the first ascent, rouleurs to help on the flat and then a second battle on the second ascent
