Lennard Kämna leaves Tour de France sick without a stage win

Lennard Kämna was close but has not been able to obtain a win in the 2022 Tour de France. The German rider had been on the hunt for another illustrious stage win to add to his collection, but will have to wait another year to try as he abandoned the Tour this morning.

The team have stated that he's tested negative on all Covid-19 tests, but has had a persistent cold that has prevented him from performing at his best. He will not start stage 16 of the race, leaving BORA - hansgrohe with one less rider in pursuit of the win they are fighting for.

Kämna was on the verge of taking the win on La Planche des Belles Filles on stage 7 but was caught in sight of the line by Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. He was present in the breakaway on stage 10, where he was seconds away from capturing the yellow jersey after UAE Team Emirates gave the escapee group a big leash.

Finally he was also in front during stage 14 into Mende where he seemed to be in an ideal position to fight for the win, however could not do better than eighth place on the day. With the Giro d'Italia in his legs aswell, he'll likely take some time to recover now before eyeing new targets.
