Laurenz Rex was the main protagonist of the stage 11's breakaway, initiating the first move, later reducing the group to just two (him and Veljko Stojnić), to shake off the Serbian cyclist at 20 km mark and try his luck in solo action, being caught by the peloton with less than 5 km from the finish line.
"I had a real mental boost from the team, because yesterday I was feeling very bad, I was among the first dropped, and they told me that it could happen on a Grand Tour, that it was nothing serious. I think my legs have been really good for these first two weeks, it was really relevant mental for me, to prove that I am able to push, to have good legs," Rex confirms how important was his team's support after brutal weather conditions during stage 10.
"I went into the breakaway and turned off the brain. We never had more than two minutes, and I felt very early on that I had to go alone at the end, to show that I was there. At the end, I am rewarded with the red bib, so I think I can be happy with my day," he added.
"Tonight, I'm going to take advantage of the massage and sleep, because the Giro is very difficult, it's raining all the time at the moment and a lot of riders are sick. As a classics rider, I'm happy that I don't get sick easily, so I'm having fun, and I hope not to suffer too much tomorrow!" concluded the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider.
