Key Lidl-Trek rider hospitalised after serious training crash - Fractures in wrist, elbow and shoulder confirmed

One of Lidl-Trek's key riders for the future has suffered a serious training crash, leading to him being hospitalised as examinations confirmed fractures of his left wrist, elbow as well as shoulder.
Albert Philipsen faces a further spell on the sidelines in his second season with Lidl-Trek, following a serious crash on a descent in May that left him with severe road rash, and an impact to the head that caused him to suffer minor memory loss.
Providing an update on the 19-year-old, the team confirmed that despite the fractures, Philipsen had thankfully been discharged from hospital as they wished him a speedy recovery.
A team statement read: "We regret to inform that Albert was involved in a training crash on Monday.
"Hospital examinations revealed three minor fractures on the left wrist, elbow and shoulder, and Albert has since been discharged. Get well soon, Albert!"
Philipsen joined Lidl-Trek as junior superstar
The Danish teenager, in his second professional season, burst onto the scene in 2023 after scooping the World Championships road race and European Championships time trial in his first season at junior level - sparking interest from several WorldTour teams.
Lidl-Trek won the race for his signature, landing his services straight out of the junior ranks. A powerful rider with a strong time trial and classics pedigree, his versatility also sees him perform well in more difficult mountain terrain.
In his first season with the squad, he took impressive top ten placings in Eschborn-Frankfurt and Giro dell'Emilia as well as third overall at the Tour de Hongrie.

His impressive adjustment to WorldTour continued in the early parts of the 2026 season as he took a stellar top ten at the Amstel Gold Race before a notable confirmation of his one-week general classification credentials thanks to a top ten at Tour de Romandie that included five top ten finishes in stages.
Still just 19, time is on the Dane's side to recover from his latest injury setback and re-set for 2027.
Still searching for his first professional victory, Philipsen's junior pedigree means it's perhaps a case of when rather than if the Lidl-Trek rider will stand on the top step of a podium.

- from a racing fans point of view of cause as a spectacle for some good racing and various winners of stages the womens TDF was great. Ok the womens peloton certainly doesnt have the depth of talent compared to the mens they do some great racing. Demi moving to FDJ after being dudded by SD worx and Reusser going to Movistar has been good for the sport . SD worx still get results thru their sprinter weibes and breggen. Breggen has done well after not racing for a few years. I follow the womens tour,MTB,'cross as much as the mens for the competitiveness actually more for MTB and 'cross. the womens racers appear to be a more even riding field whereas the mens in some races just plain boring and just dont look right.
