Key domestiques Tobias Foss and Robert Gesink out of Giro d'Italia due to Covid-19, Dennis and van Emden to support Roglic

Covid-19 is also striking the Giro d'Italia and the race has not even begun yet. Jumbo-Visma have been hit with two positive cases confirmed tonight. Tobias Foss and Robert Gesink have been pulled out from the lineup and replaced by Jos van Emden and Rohan Dennis.

This is a meaningful hit for the Dutch team who loses two key domestiques for the mountains. Jumbo will enter the tough stages with a significantly more modest lineup, with Sepp Kuss now taking on a more important support role for Primoz Roglic.

Foss and Gesink have been replaced by Jos van Emden and Rohan Dennis who should be able to perform more on the flat stages when it comes to protection. The Australian, if he finds good form, may be able to provide some support in the mountains.

This also means a risk for Jumbo, who already actively have Covid-19 spreading throughout the team. This poses a huge risk for the team which will have a very nervous few days in order to understand if there will be more cases.

Updated Jumbo-Visma lineup: Primoz Roglic, Sepp Kuss, Edoardo Affini, Jos van Emden, Rohan Dennis, Koen Bouwman, Michel Hessmann and Jan Tratnik.
