Kata Blanka Vas takes opening stage victory at the Tour de Suisse Women

Kata Blanka Vas has taken to the win on the opening stage of the 2023 Tour de Suisse Women, taking the overall lead of the race.

Stage 1 is the shortest of the race - without counting the time-trial - only with 78 kilometers. In two hours the riders will get through this circuit in Weinfelden, where a sprint is expected despite the decently tough hilltop that will be climbed four times.

Elise Chabbey was a one-woman breakaway up the road and she was putting in a very brave effort. With 10km to go she remained dangling out front with around 20 seconds advantage.

The gap remained around the same with 5km to go and the Swiss rider was dreaming of an emotional win. Sadly for Chabbey she was caught with 3.5km to go.

With the break caught attention turned to the finale. In the final push for the line, Kata Blanka Vas was victorious ahead of Arlennis Sierra.
