Matteo Jorgenson is the undisputed king of Paris-Nice over recent years. After his breakthrough triumph in 2024, the American has returned and successfully defended the Maillot Jaune to add a second successive Maillot Jaune win to his palmares in 2025.
Heading into the final stage, Jorgenson was sitting pretty at the top of the GC. The work was far from done though, and as the relentlessly attacking nature of the stage, many of his Team Visma | Lease a Bike teammates dropped away early, leaving Jorgenson somewhat isolated. Proving his maturity and his racing nous though, the American looked supreme, eventually finishing 2nd behind his compatriot Magnus Sheffield on the stage, securing the Maillot Jaune win in the process.
"I've been thinking about this week for the past four months. Just a lot of stress coming off now. It's nice to do it [win] and know I did everything I could. It worked out," the two-time winner said at the finish to broadcasters," reflected Jorgenson in his post-stage interview afterwards. "I credit my team, really. I was so well-supported this week. Today, I was pretty isolated and I knew that would be the case in the mountains. But the rest of the week we took full advantage of really having a strong team on the flats, and tactically and positioning. Everyone was committed from day one, and that feels really good. I am so happy to be on this team. And I've won Paris-Nice two years in a row - that's crazy to say that."
