"It's important for the media impact" - Annemiek van Vleuten applauds Lagos de Covadonga finale at women's Vuelta

Annemiek van Vleuten has won the last two editions of La Vuelta Femenina and in 2023 she will try to win again. The reigning world and 3 Grand Tour champion has given her opinion on the route of the Spanish round, which for the first time will consist of 7 stages, like the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.

"It's important for the media impact that the Vuelta will finish on such a famous summit (Los Lagos de Covadonga). It's also good that there are flat stages because they are a good ingredient to make a complete race exciting," commented the Movistar Team rider after learning about the route.

These statements by van Vleuten contrast with the harsh criticism of the route for too many flat stages or the short distance of the final stage that ends in Los Lagos de Covadonga (90 kilometers). The truth is that there is something for everyone: a team time trial, 3 flat stages and 3 mountain stages. We will see how the race develops but, a priority, it is a route with enough attractions to make it a beautiful open and above all exciting race until the last moment, which is what the organization has sought by placing Lagos at the end.
