After an impressive performance saw Jack Haig ride to a third-placed overall finish at the Tour of the Alps, Bahrain - Victorious will start the Giro d'Italia quietly confident.
“The most important thing was to get Jack and Santiago back racing after an altitude training. We didn't know how good Jack would be, you never know when you've been at altitude for so long. We are therefore happy with the result," said Bahrain-Victorious's sporting director Gorazd Štangelj following the conclusion of the Tour of the Alps in a press release.
With the highlight of finishing second behind the eventual overall winner Tao Geoghegan Hart on stage two, Haig impressed throughout and a podium finish is a vindication of the good racing legs the 29-year-old Australian currently has according to Stangelj.
"It looks good towards the Giro," he previews. "We only rode here with part of our intended Giro team, the other part will start in the Tour de Romandie on Tuesday. With the men from the Tour of the Alps we are already on the right track."
