Yves Lampaert managed to win the Individual Time trial in the third stage of the
Baloise Belgium Tour held on Friday. The defending Belgian champion stopped the clock at 13:39, averaging close to 52km/h and putting him in the Top position till the race ended. This victory pushed him to second place in the overall standings.
“It feels great to get my first victory of the season, and the fact that I did it with this jersey on my shoulders makes it even more special. I am happy to be on the top spot of the podium after a frustrating spring, and I hope I won’t stop here as we take on the second part of the season," Lampaert said after his first win of the season.
"Today it wasn’t easy. It was very hot, the course had some technical parts and I suffered towards the end, but I am delighted I could pull it off. It’s quite the confidence boost ahead of the National Championships, but until then we focus on the remaining stages of the Belgium Tour, where we have options for some more good results," Lampaert pointed out.
He'll have a challenge to keep his second place in the overall classification, however the form is promising and he is also presented as one of the main favourites to take the overall win.
