Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert has revealed the plans of creating its own training team. Kévin Van Melsen will be the sporting director of the team.
Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert is concerned about the development of new riders and plans to invest considerably more in talent development beginning next year. Around fifteen Belgian and international talents will soon have a place in the new training team. As a result, this new squad will be registered as a UCI Continental Team and will participate in national and international events.
"We think the development of young riders is important. Don't forget that our team - when I took over in 2001 - was just a local amateur team, Our structure has subsequently evolved, but our DNA has certainly not disappeared. We want to complete our project with a continental training team, in order to train young riders and bring them to the highest level," said team manager Jean-François Bourlart.
When Van Melsen was asked about how he felt about leading a new team, He said "I am happy and honored to be part of this project. After a 12-year career as a professional cyclist, I can pass on my experience to young people. We are very motivated to get the best out of the qualities of our future riders. We want to get them ready for the next step in their career."
