Giovanni Aleotti : "I’ll give my best to defend the jersey"

Stage three of the Sibiu Cycling Tour took the peloton from Sibiu to Balea Lake and covered a distance of 179.4km. Aleotti outsprinted Vanhoucke to take the stage win while his teammate Cian finished third.

During last few kilometers of race Cian Uijtebroeks successfully created some distance from peloton. After Uijtebroeks' breakaway, It was Aleotti's turn to do his part. He managed to beat Vanhoucke in an uphill sprint. Vanhoucke had to settle for second place. Aleotti now leads the general classification. Aleotti is the tour's defending champion, and he intends to keep his title.

“After last year, it feels good to be in the leader’s jersey again here at the Sibiu Tour. Today worked out absolutely perfectly. I already knew the climb and together with Cian, we were able to make a move at the right time. I’m really happy with this stage win and want to thank my teammates for their amazing work today. A special shoutout to Cesare Benedetti, it was his effort to bring back the breakaway. We’ve got an uphill TT tomorrow morning and a short stage in the evening, I’ll give my best to defend the jersey,” said Giovanni Aleotti.
