The countdown is almost over, Grand Tour season is about to
begin, and the 2025 Giro d’Italia kicks off on 9 May. With just a week to go,
the first team to unveil its lineup is none other than the
INEOS Grenadiers.
Heading to Italy with a dual-leadership strategy, the
British squad will back both
Thymen Arensman and former Giro winner Egan
Bernal. Arensman, fresh off an eye-catching performance at the Tour of the
Alps, enters the race as a potential dark horse for the overall title. Bernal,
who claimed pink in 2021, continues his steady return to form and brings
valuable Grand Tour-winning experience.
The last time the British squad won a grand tour stage was
on the opening stage of the Giro last year, but they have started 2025 in much
better form than in 2024.
Veteran
Geraint Thomas, who finished on the podium last year
and narrowly missed out on victory in 2023 to Primoz Roglic after leading much
of the race, will not be targeting the Italian race in what is his final
season.
Supporting Arensman and Bernal in the mountains and on the
flats will be a strong group of domestiques: Jonathan Castroviejo, Lucas
Hamilton, Kim Heiduk, Brandon Rivera, Joshua Tarling, and Ben Turner complete
the eight-man roster.
