In search of UCI points and World Tour survival - Cofidis bet on sprints for Giro d'Italia success

As a French team, Cofidis will always have more input in the Tour de France where they deposit their biggest hopes throughout the cycling season, however over the past few years they've had a few success stories at the Giro d'Italia including last year with Benjamin Thomas. This year, the team's leader will be Milan Fretin.

The Belgian rider has proved to be one of the biggest breakthroughs of the spring, and has won a sprint at the Volta ao Algarve head-to-head against Jordi Meeus, Filippo Ganna and Arnaud De Lie. He has not had many race days throughout the spring, but has scored two other victories and plenty UCI points throughout the opening months of the season. Here at the Giro d'Italia, he will be one of the main figures in the bunch sprints.

The team features Stefano Oldani, a previous stage winner at the Corsa Rosa as well, and will mostly be focusing on breakaways. Sergio Samitier, Anthony Perez, Sylvain Moniquet, Jan Maas, Jonathan Lastra and Nicolas Debeaumarché complete the lineup.
