"I'm very curious to see how he will do in the Giro d'Italia" - Jonas Vingegaard admits Wout van Aert will be a big miss at the Tour de France

Jonas Vingegaard got underway in 2024 with a dominant performance at Gran Camino, taking a trifecta of stage wins, overall victory and both the mountains and points jerseys.

"Both the team and I can be very happy, because we achieved quite a few victories that week," Vingegaard has now told Spanish sports news outlet, AS, referring to a brilliant weekend for Team Visma | Lease a Bike that also saw Jan Tratnik, Marianne Vos and Wout van Aert taste victory in their respective races. "I feel that the condition is there and that is why I feel very good. You could almost say that winter went perfectly. I didn't miss a single workout and did everything I could. So I'm completely ready for this season."

The victory also continued Vingegaard's growing love-affair with the nation of Spain. After victory at the Ituzlia Basque Country and Gran Camino in 2023, Vingegaard shone with a pair of stage wins at the Vuelta a Espana. "I really love this race and I really love the fans here. So why shouldn't I return?" the Dane says with a smile.

"But I am also looking forward to competing for victory in those other competitions," the 27-year-old concludes. "The Tour will also be different than usual, if only because we do not have Wout van Aert in our team. I'm very curious to see how he will do in the Giro d'Italia."
