Jakob Fuglsang is 37 years of age but has recently shown to be riding as strong as ever. The Dane is in great form and will be leading
Israel - Premier Tech at the
Tour de France, although not alone as the team presents several riders in strong form.
”Starting the Tour de France in my home country will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I can’t wait to get started. I’m sure the Danish fans will make this year’s Grand Depart one that won’t be forgotten anytime soon," Fuglsang told in the announcement press release. It will be a very special event for Fuglsang, who will have the first three days of racing in his home country before heading towards France.
“After my victory in Mercan’Tour and third place overall in Tour de Suisse last week, I feel ready to take on this Tour," he added. These results have shaken away a tough start to the season, and now at the critical period Fuglsang seems ready to aim high at the Tour, whether that will be stage-hunting in the mountains or an overall classification target - both of which he's succeeded in the past.
"I’ve been working hard to get to this point and I believe my shape is where it should be right now. The Tour is always unpredictable, but I’m here to leave my mark on the race and not just to be another pair of legs in the bunch," he concluded. Fuglsang will be a wildcard for the race, however judging by his recent performances a very plausible card to play in the hardest stages of the race, aswell as the hilly days.
