The battle for the sprint win on stage 4 of the 2023 Tour de Pologne was incredibly fierce. Properly in and amongst the fight for the victory was Tudor Pro Cycling Team's Arvid de Kleijn, finishing eighth.
“It was very hectic, I must say,” the 19-year-old Dutchman revealed in a post-stage interview. “I think we went a little too far. I tried to cut into the last corner on the inside, but I was two positions too far. Then I was ready immediately, because then you're too far and then it's over. I had to steer around everything, so I couldn't do my sprint. But I was there.”
Jumbo-Visma's Olav Kooij was the eventual winner of the stage, with de Kleijn now turning his attention to Friday and the next chance for a bunch sprint. Sadly for the Tudor Pro Cycling Team sprinter however, he will do so without leadout man, Maikel Zijlaard.
“Maikel fell in the descent yesterday, that's why he got off. Fortunately, he is relatively well. He didn't break anything, so that's good. I hope he will be back soon and that we can ride together again in Germany," De Kleijn concludes. “I feel that I am a little less, but I hope that I will recover before the last stage. Then I will go there with confidence.”
