Strong racing for our guys in pink today. 💪 Marijn van den Berg takes 2nd place on stage 4 of the Tour of Poland after a tight sprint finish. More than halfway done in Poland with three more stages to go.
For Marijn van den Berg, a second-placed finish behind Olav Kooij on stage 4 of the 2023 Tour de Pologne was an impressive result. One he was very happy with as he revealed post-stage.
“It was quite hectic,” the 24-year-old EF Education-EasyPost rider tells Wielerflits. “The team helped me a lot to put me in a good position. In the last kilometre, I was just a bit too far, so I sprinted forward myself on the outside. Then my sprint was already a bit less, I felt that, but I was on Olav Kooij's wheel and tried to follow him. That was the highest possible, I think.”
Currently in the middle of preparation for the first Grand Tour of his career at the upcoming Vuelta a Espana, van den Berg wasn't actually supposed to be at the Tour de Pologne. After a bout of illness within the team however, the Dutchman was drafted in at the last minute.
“It's a great week for him to see where he stands,” says EF Education-EasyPost's sports director Sebastian Langeveld. “He has had a good training period and we are going for him in the sprint stages."
“Climbing is also going well for me," adds van den Berg. "I noticed the past few days. It's fine. We will see if I can also do this in the Vuelta. I hope so. As things are going now, I think a lot is achievable.”
